One World Coders Launches Community 2.0

One World Coders will be extending its tech community outreach to Uganda and Nigeria. Since the launch of the One World Coders Community 1.0 in Rwanda in May 2020, we have carried out successful tech campaigns as we continue to contribute our quota in identifying and bringing together young technology enthusiasts based in Rwanda into our community forum, exposing them to technical resources, technical meet-up events, networking and job opportunities within and outside our organisation.

We believe that Africa has the largest untapped pool of talent in the world and this is why we have decided to extend our community campaigns further in the course of the year 2021. This will enable us to reach more of these young talents, invite them into the One World Coders community forum, where they will have access to technical resources, the opportunity to network with like-minds, and get information on job openings within and outside our organisation.

We currently have over a hundred and sixty (160+) community members in our slack forum. Due to the severity of the covid-19 pandemic across the world, our community activities have remained virtual. During the second and third quarter of 2020, we held two successful virtual meet-up events, where we invited experienced technologist and developer advocates from across Nigeria, the USA, Germany, and India, to speak to our community members on various topics of interest as well as share resources and knowledge on how they can maximise opportunities in these pandemic times.

We shall be spreading our hire for software apprentices to these countries in the course of the year 2021, as we look forward to setting up entities in Kampala and Lagos by the end of the first quarter. The One World Coders community forum is also one of the primary channels by which we relate our company’s cultures and values to our community members, and we intend to continually tap from this pool of talents as our first source of truth during recruitment.

As an ‘Engineering as a service’ company, the growing tech ecosystem in Africa is one of the greatest ways that we will create employment, through harnessing and equipping young talents with the right skills and culture to deliver quality engineering services to our clients.
